Ok, so I got through Thanksgiving. It wasn’t easy. I’m not going to get into specifics to protect the identities of the guilty. Suffice to say, I’m glad its over. Maybe I’m over reacting, because I guess it wasn’t that bad, but thank god it’s only once a year. Time to move on.
Today I drove out to Pahrump, NV. It’s a small town about an hour outside of Las Vegas. They’ve got a really impressive racetrack and motorsports park called Spring Mountain Motorsports. It’s got a 3.5 mile track with about 4 configurations. There are some good straights and several technical turns. I drove it tamely in a Bentley GT today, but will definitely go back and drive it at speed in something meant for that. Anyway, Criss Angel invited me out to be on an episode of his TV show. When we were hanging out one night I came up with an illusion for him to do. The day before I had been watching “Back to the Future”. In that movie, Michael J. Fox’s character drives a car 88 MPH and it disappears. I said to Criss “Do that!” No one has ever made a moving car vanish. Plenty of people have made stationary things vanish. Criss himself made an elephant vanish. So he figured out how to do it, and was nice enough to have me on the show and give me credit for thinking of it. He didn’t do the illusion today, but will soon. I can’t wait to see it.
We had a great thanksgiving weekend in the store. The traffic was insane and the retail side did big numbers. I wish we could do sales like that every weekend. But the big ones are coming up. The second biggest weekend in Las Vegas is New Years, and the number one weekend is Super Bowl. Speaking of New Years, I wonder what I’ll end up doing this year. Last year we spent it at the Hard Rock with some friends including Swizz Beatz (who, for the first time since I’ve known him, got absolutely hammered). If you don’t know who Swizz is, he is a musical genius who writes and produces for all the major artists on the radio today. When you go to a club about every 3rd or 4th song you hear, Swizz either wrote or produced. We usually end up with 10 invitations for new years, so we’ll see what develops.
The 5 Diamond tournaments start this weekend at Bellagio. This is a series of Poker tournaments that ends in a $15,000 buy in WPT event. I’m crazy busy right now, but I’m going to try to play in several of the events, and also try to win my way into the main event. I really want to play in the main, but don’t want to lay out $15,000 to do it. At the World Series this year I won my way into the main, so I figure I can do it again.
It’s 6:30 pm and I’ve gotta get home to see my kids before they go to bed. That’s it for now……
